School Code of Conduct
In Order to provide general guidance to our employees, Coast Career Institute, Inc. is committed to conducting business to the highest ethical and legal standards. CCI has established the following Code of Conduct in the form of a list of prohibited conduct. Engaging in any of the following will result in disciplinary action up to, and including immediate discharge. All employees are expected to be familiar with, and follow CCI guidelines.
A. Use, possession, sale, purchase or being under the under influence of alcoholic beverages, intoxicating drugs, or other intoxicants at any time, on Company premises or while on Company paid time.
B. Theft, embezzlement, fraud or unauthorized possession of the Company’s or an employee’s property.
C. Carrying or having possession of weapons or explosives (on your person, or on the premises).
D. Personal acceptance of a fee, revenue-sharing, gift ban, or other valuable item from clients, customers, students, agents or contractors.
E. Violations of criminal laws or conviction of a felony while employed Coast Career Institute.
F. Horse play or other disorderly conduct.
G. Intentionally destroying or damaging Company property or a client’s property.
H. Falsification of Company records including, but not limited to, the employment application, time records, forms, reports, or any other document required by the Company.
I. Non-compliance with or disregard for safety rules and/or practices or engaging in any conduct that is unsafe in nature.
J. Being absent from work without permission, coming to work late, abuse of sick leave, or leaving the premises without permission.
K. Threatening, intimidation, coercing, interfering, harassing, using abusive language towards anyone (i.e. the public, co-workers, supervisors, etc.) or other conduct unbecoming a Company employee.
L. Failure to get along with fellow employees to the extent that work being performed is hindered or below required standards.
M. Incompetence, failure to perform assigned work in an efficient manner, or performance; which, in the Company’s opinion, does not meet the requirements of the position.
N. Release of confidential information regarding the Company or Company business.
O. Use of Company material, time, or equipment for the manufacture or production of an article for unauthorized purposes or for personal use, or being wasteful of Company materials, property or working time.
P. Smoking on Company Premises is permitted only in designated areas. The designated areas are located outside of our facilities. Smoking is NOT permitted indoors under any circumstance.
Q. Insubordination or refusal to comply with instructions or failure to perform duties to which assigned.
R. Sleeping on the job, or appearing to be sleeping on the job.
S. Violation of the provisions of these rules or any rules, regulations and policies prescribed by the Company or department head.
T. Any action or inaction which is a hindrance to the effective performance of Company functions or reflects discredit upon the Company.
U. Engaging in such other practices which may be inconsistent with the ordinary and reasonable rules of conduct necessary to the welfare of the Company, employees, and clients.
V. The harassment of any employee due to membership in any protected class (i.e. sex, race, color, national origin, age, religion, disability, etc.).
W. Verbal, written and/or physical assaults.
X. Prohibited consulting/contracting arrangements
Y. Prohibit assigning of lender to first-time borrower
Z. Prohibit refusal to certify or delay of certification based upon choice of lender
AA. Prohibition on offers of funds for private loans
BB. Ban on staffing assistance
CC. Prohibition on receipt of compensation for advisory board service
EMPLOYEE CONDUCT
CCI employees are not allowed to accept gifts, make or take loans, socially meet or date a CCI student, or accept substantial favors from any student, vendor or other outside party that does or is seeking to do business with Coast Career Institute. CCI employees are not permitted to hold any other employment at local colleges, schools, or training facilities that may have a direct conflict of interest and/or incompatibility with their assigned position at Coast Career Institute, unless approved by CCI management. Classroom discussion should be limited to the lesson plan and educational training materials provided by CCI. Discussion of an instructor’s/staff personal viewpoints in the areas of religion, politics, sexual orientation, and/or race is not permitted at any time while on school premises. Profane language, lewd remarks and/or other demeaning comments while in the presence of students, faculty, staff or visitors are also strictly prohibited. Professional conduct is expected at all times.
HARASSMENT
Coast Career Institute, Inc. will not tolerate any form of employee harassment, either verbal or physical, based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, medical condition, or marital status. It is the intent of our Company that all employees will work in an environment that is free from harassment of any employee by another employee, supervisor, contractor, client, agent or customer.
It is a specific policy of our Company to provide a work environment which is free of sexual harassment. Sexual harassment includes but is not limited to unwelcome sexual advances, request for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when:
• Submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual’s employment;
• Submission to or rejection of such conduct by an individual is used as the basis of employment decision affecting such individual; or
• Such conduct has the purpose or effect unreasonably interfering with an individual’s work performance or creating an intimidation, hostile, or offensive work environment.
Should an employee be found to have exhibited harassing behavior, disciplinary actions up to and including discharge will occur. Examples of such harassing behavior include, but are not limited to:
• Sexual flirtations, advances, or propositions which are not freely and mutually agreeable to both parties.
• Verbal abuse of a sexual nature, sexually related comments and joking, graphic or degrading comments about an employee’s appearance.
• Any physical contact or touching, such as patting, pinching, brushing against another’s body, impeding or blocking movement, or any physical interference with normal work or movement when directed at any individual.
• Verbal harassment regarding the individual’s race, sex, color, national origin, religion, or age such as, but not limited to epithets, derogatory comments or slurs, profanity, gestures, racial jokes, or form of address.
• Visual forms of harassment such as derogatory posters, sexually oriented cartoons, pictures, drawings or the display of sexually suggestive objects or pictures in the workplace.
• Undesirable work assignments due to race, color, sex, national origin, age, religion, etc.
• The use of sexual behavior to implicitly or explicitly threaten coerces, influence or affect the employment job status, salary or performance of another employee.
If any employee believes that s/he has been the victim of sexual or other harassment, the matter should immediately be reported to the Director. Employees are assured that they will not be retaliated against for bringing any incident of harassment to the attention of the employer. Complaints will be investigated promptly and will be kept confidential. Any harassment found will be stopped and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against any employee found to have engaged in harassment. There will be no retaliation as a result of harassment being brought to the attention of the employer.
SAFETY
It is the policy of the Company to provide safe working conditions for all employees and to establish the safety regulations necessary to ensure that safe working conditions are maintained. It is also our policy to comply with all Federal, State, and local regulations.
It is the obligation of every employee to observe the safety rules as well. Employees who jeopardize their own safety and that of other employees by failing to follow the rules will be subject to disciplinary action.
Employees should immediately report any health or safety hazards to their supervisor. Any accident or injury, no matter how slight, must also be reported immediately.
CONFIDENTIALITY
It is essential that the business and internal affairs of Coast Career Institute, Inc. be kept confidential. Employees are prohibited from disclosing to any third party any confidential information or trade secrets.
Violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action up to and including dismissal.
